Tzipi Livni's dramatic announcement will allow Isaac Herzog to serve a full term as prime minister, if he wins the election.

Tzipi Livni has waived the rotation agreement with Zionist Union leader Isaac Herzog, under which each of them would serve two years as prime minister, if the Zionist Union were to win tomorrow's election.

Following pressure within the party and concerns that the gap between the Zionist Union and incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud is closing, Livni made her dramatic announcement this evening in an attempt to attract more voters. Throughout the campaign, she has been adamant that the rotation agreement still held.

Polls conducted in recent days by the Zionist Union found that while many voters were eager to see Herzog replace Netanyahu, they were less enthusiastic about Livni subsequently becoming prime minister.

The Zionist Union is hoping this latest announcement will enlarge the gap by which it leads the Likud and the move is designed to combat concern about Netanyahu's aggressive campaign in recent days and last night's rally in Tel Aviv, aimed at closing the gap.

While the Zionist Union said the move will increase the number of seats they will win, the Likud insisted that it was a sign that their opponents feel they are under pressure.
