Music teaching co JoyTunes raises $5m

JoyTunes technology shortens the process for millions of people learning to play music.

JoyTunes, which has launched a free app for music teachers and their students, has raised $5 million in Series A funding led by Aleph, and Formation 8 with the participation of previous investor Genesis Partners.

JoyTunes is the brainchild of co-founder and CEO Yuval Kaminka who founded the company with his former army instructor Roey Izkovsky (CTO) and his brother Yigal Kaminka (Content Director) who brought a musical touch to the company with his experience playing lead oboe in the Israel Broadcasting Authority Orchestra and a musical degree from a German university.

Yuval Kaminka said, “At JoyTunes, we want to enable everyone to learn how to play music because we believe its such an accessible form of expression for everyone. We are excited to use this latest round of funding to further expand our community and hire more passionate people to drive greater musical fluency.”

JoyTunes now has over 3.5 million organic downloads in the App Store and over one million songs are played through its apps every week.
