Angles12, a new investors club for startups in the haredi (ultra-Orthodox) sector, is launching. Promoting the club is Kama-Tech, a private non-profit venture that yields a different sort of socioeconomic profit - the integration of ultra-Orthodox men and women in this growing sector.
According to Kama-Tech, the goal of the Angels12 club (it was opened with 12 members) is to provide entrepreneurs with seed investments. As of now, $300,000 has already been raised through the club from 14 members, and it is expected to continue growing by word of mouth.
Current club members include Gigi Levy, Dov Moran, Izhar Shay, Chemi Peres, Rami Kalish, Adi Sofer Teeni, Michal Tsur, Avishai Abrahami, Ehud Levy, Irit Israeli Kahana, Zika Abzuk, Rami Lipman, and Avraham Shalel. According to Kama-Tech CEO Moshe Friedman, the response to the club "shows a lot of good will among high-tech leaders in Israel to lend a hand to the measure, and the confidence they have in the developing haredi startups." He added that since it was founded, its growth has indeed been continuing.
Eight of the 224 startups that registered took part in the Kama-Tech accelerator. They began without any investments. Within a short time, they raised $6.5 million, and they now have 70 employees. Eight of 450 startups registered for the second group were selected for the second group, which is now beginning.
