The pressure has told: Orange S.A. CEO Stephane Richard has responded positively to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's call and said yesterday that he would visit Israel "soon", French news agency AFP reports.
Orange's management published a statement saying that the company's CEO had accepted Netanyahu's suggestion. Earlier yesterday, the prime minister instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to tell Richard, who had asked to meet Israel's ambassador to France, that "he is welcome to come and give his explanations in Israel."
"Richard will go to the Jewish state to provide clarifications of the misunderstandings that have arisen recently, to straighten things out and to reaffirm the company's commitment," a spokesperson for the French telecommunications giant said.
Earlier yesterday, in a telephone conversation with Netanyahu, President Francois Hollande expressed firm opposition to attempts to boycott Israel, and said he wished to maintain the special ties between the two peoples.
