Post Office strike to continue

Post Office employees are demanding management's resignation.

The Israel Postal Company Ltd. strike will continue tomorrow with all branches closed for the second day. 300 postal employees today demonstrated outside the company Tel Aviv headquarters, calling for management to resign because of the company's condition.

Post Office workers committee chairman Shimon Farjoon told "Globes" that the workers were fighting for their livelihoods and called on the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Communications to intervene to end the strike. He said that management was only offering illegal layoffs and pay cuts and no recovery plan. He said that the employees understood the Post Office's difficulties, and were willing to help.

"These are people earning NIS 6,000-7,000 a month. We're not talking about the top 1%, and they must not be harmed. Management is now talking about e-commerce and the need to adapt to the new era and more efficient parcel delivery. Where have they been until now? When exactly didn’t they see this coming? The workers are to blame for this," he asked.

The Post Office said in response, "Israel Post is dealing with difficult financial conditions, which require a comprehensive recovery plan. Regrettably, the union refuses to realize this and adapt to the challenges facing the company in the new era in which mail delivery is plummeting from one year to the next."
