Rates were also cut by 5% last January and 0.5% in July.
The Israel Water Authority Council today approved a 10% cut in water rates. The new reduced rate goes into effect on January 1, 2015. The current reduction in the water rate follows a 5% cut last January and a 0.5% reduction in July, making a total reduction of over 15%. The lowering of prices is due to additional cost cutting by the water corporations, updating of rates for various sectors, and bargaining with Mekorot National Water Company, among other reasons.
Minister of National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Resources Silvan Shalom said today at a meeting with local authorities heads, "The water rates will be reduced by 10% at the beginning of January, completing a reduction of over 15% in consumer water rates within a year, a reduction that will be felt in every home in Israel. I am taking steps aimed at further cuts in 2015, as part of the measures I am leading to reduce the cost of living for consumers."
