Waze Ltd. is recruiting Android users for a beta program that will let them road test new features destined for it crowdsourcing navigation app. Users who join the program will gain early access to the latest version of the app will influence the company's decision whether to add or forego a particular feature.
To join, participants need sign up and complete their online community profile, and sign a participating agreement.
Waze users running Android 2.2 and up with a screen resolution of at least 320x480 pixels can join the program. Testers will need to be responsive, as well having some technical sense and the ability to give feedback in English. In return, members get "a chance to win some awesome swag
Waze's navigation app also provides crowdsourcing based information about traffic congestion, road hazards, police presence, gas station prices, and other information. Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG) acquired the company for almost $1 billion in June 2013, amid concern that it merge the company into Google Maps. While Google has integrated some Waze features into Google Maps, it has kept Waze as an independent operation, and Waze as added Google Street View and Google Search to its own Android and iPhone map editor.
