The veteran journalist, a former senior advisor to Education Minister Naftali Bennett, will replace Steve Linde.

Yaakov Katz, who until recently served as a senior adviser to Minister of Education Naftali Bennett and the Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Diaspora before then was appointed on Wednesday as the new editor-in-chief of the “Jerusalem Post”. Katz replaces Steve Linde, who served as the top editor for the past five years and recently announced his retirement.

Katz will be resuming his career in journalism at the “Jerusalem Post”, where he previously served as the military correspondent and defense analyst during a ten-year stint that ended in 2013.

“I am honored to replace the amazing Steve Linde and head ‘The Jerusalem Post’, Israel’s leading English-language newspaper and a pillar of journalistic integrity and distinction for the past 85 years,” said Katz on Wednesday.

“Alongside the newspaper’s devoted staff, including writers, editors and designers, I look forward to continuing ‘The Jerusalem Post’ legacy and provide readers with the best news, commentary, and analysis about the State of Israel, the Middle East, and the Jewish world.”

Alongside his work in the press, Katz was also a fellow at the Neiman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University, where he is a faculty member teaching a course on journalism and media.

He is the author of two books: “Israel vs. Iran: The Shadow War” a best-seller published in the US and Israel; and an upcoming publication, “Weapons Wizards: How Israel Became a Military Superpower”, to be released in 2017.

The outgoing Steve Linde said: “After 5 fascinating years as the editor-in-chief, I am happy to return to different journalistic assignments and to continue to contribute to the paper in the future. The paper is a leading brand in the field, thanks to the wonderful team which brings the news to the world.”

The Jerusalem Post Group CEO Ronit Hasin-Hochman congratulated Linde on his achievements as editor-in-chief, saying he successfully steered the paper on all of its platforms. ““His contribution to ‘The Jerusalem Post’, fortifying its position as the leading English-language newspaper in Israel and the most widely read by Diaspora Jewry is immeasurable and for that we thank him myself, the editorial staff and our readership, both in print and online.”
