Supermarket sales rise

Food sales by supermarket chains rose by an annualized 4.9%, in fixed prices, in the second quarter.

Chain store sales rose by an annualized 5.1%, in fixed prices, in the second quarter of 2009, after rising by an annualized 3.9% in the first quarter, the Central Bureau of Statistics reports. Food sales by supermarket chains rose by an annualized 4.9%, in fixed prices, in the second quarter, after rising by an annualized 3.2% in the preceding quarter.

The Central Bureau of Statistics defines "chain store" and a retailer with at least three stores that sell all categories of retail goods, including food.
