Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat ran in the ING New York City Marathon on Sunday, and finished the race in 4:42:46. This was the Mayor's 5th marathon.
After the race, Barkat said that Jerusalem will join cities such as Paris, Berlin and New York, and will host an international marathon in 2011.
The Jerusalem Municipality has started to make arrangements, and has contacted marathon production companies abroad in order to host an international marathon in Jerusalem in 2011.
According to the Jerusalem municipality spokesman, the marathon will attract participants from all over the world and will include all of Jerusalem's unique historic sites, giving a big push to local and international tourism to Jerusalem.
Mayor Barkat, who ran with 15 friends from the army, has run in marathons in Paris, Berlin and Israel.
