Gadgets aficionados can get ready: sales of iPhones are due to begin on Wednesday night-Thursday morningat one minute after midnight. Mobile operators and Apple Inc's (Nasdaq: AAPL) Israeli representative, iDigital Ltd. are planning various sales promotions for the handset.
Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL) and Pelephone Communications Ltd. are planning special midnight sales of iPhones. Pelephone will sell iPhones at a special booth at Ramat Gan's Ayalon Mall, and Cellcom will sell them at Dizengoff Center in Tel Aviv.
The price of the iPhones has not yet been disclosed, and the mobile operators intend to keep it a secret up to the moment of the launch. This could cause problems for some potential buyers who will have to arrive at the points of sale on Wednesday night without knowing how much they will have to pay.
iDigital will have its own iPhone points of sale at its two stores at Dizengoff Center and the Ramat Aviv Mall. The company also announced today that the iPhones it will sell will be sold with Pelephone sale plans. As part of the collaboration, Pelephone subscribers can receive iDigital's briefings on iPhone use, tools, and applications, which will be held three times a week at the Ramat Aviv Mall and at the company's new store at the Grand Canyon Mall in Haifa.
iDigital has been in talks with both Cellcom and Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR) over iPhone sales, but the negotiations broke down.
Partner will not open sales points on Wednesday night, but will have extended hours on Thursday.
