Beit Shemesh official arrested in Holyland affair

Former Jerusalem Local Planning and Building Commission chairman Matti Huta is suspected of involvement.

There has been another arrest in the Holyland affair. Israel Police today arrested former Jerusalem Local Planning and Building Commission chairman Matti Huta on suspicion of involvement in the affair. Huta is currently the Beit Shemesh Municipality director general.

Huta will be brought before the Rishon LeZion Magistrates Court this afternoon for extension of his remand.

The Holyland case is essentially an investigation into charges that the project's developers bribed public officials to facilitate the project. Officials arrested to date include former Jerusalem mayor Uri Lupolianski; former prime minister Ehud Olmert's bureau chief Shula Zaken; former Olmert aide Uri Messer, middleman Meir Rabin, Hillel Cherney, Avigdor Kelner, and former Jerusalem city engineer Uri Sheetrit. Although Olmert's name has come up in the investigation, he has not yet been summoned for questioning.
