Sources inform ''Globes'' that one of the backers of Select Communications Ltd., a bidder in the tender for Israel's new mobile carrier, is Louis Mayberg, a co-founder and president of ProFund Advisors LLC, a leading US hedge fund. He has teamed up with Dr. Michael Gelfand, who is mainly engaged in investing in the US. Mayberg will be an active partner in the venture.
Based in Bethesda, Mayland, ProFund Advisors is a major offerer of funds that track stock indices.
The sources add that Shuki Gleitman is the Israeli investor backing Select Communications. Gleitman, a former Chief Scientist and CEO of Shrem Fudim Technologies Ltd. (TASE:SFKT), currently serves as Singapore's Honorary Consul in Israel. The Ministry of Communications stipulates that an Israeli investor must own at least 5% of a company participating in the mobile carrier tender.
