Yuli Ofer's widow, Ruth Ofer, today filed a NIS 17.5 million lawsuit against Ofer Investments Ltd. for compensation for the residual due to the termination of his employment by the company. Yuli Ofer died in September. The death counts as an event for which severance compensation is owed. Yuli Ofer was an owner of the company for 54 years.
Ruth Ofer contends that Ofer Investments is trying in gross bad faith to avoid payment of the full residual compensation to which she is entitled. She claims that the NIS 3.8 million already paid is only part of what she is owed, that the amount was calculated in secret, and that it is violation of the law and rulings on the payment of compensation to heirs.
Yuli Ofer left his entire stake in Ofer Investments to his daughter Leora, leaving none of the company to his son, Doron, according to a will written in November 2008. However, in a previous will, he divided his stake in the company equally between his two children. The Family Affairs Court has asked for the persons named in the will - Ruth Ofer, Leora Ofer, and Yuli Ofer's grandchildren by Leora and Doron - to respond. Doron, who is not named in the will, was forced to petition the court to join the legal proceedings.
