Ehud Olmert indicted in Holyland affair

Former Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski and former Bank Hapoalim chairman Dan Dankner were also indicted.

State Prosecutor Moshe Lador today indicted former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, the former head of the Prime Minister's Bureau Shula Zaken, former Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski, former Bank Hapoalim chairman Dan Dankner, and other officials in the Holyland real estate project scandal. This is the second trial involving Olmert.

The Holyland project is one of the worst cases of corruption in Israeli history. Olmert has been indicted for accepting bribes. This is the first time that he has been indicted on this charge; in his other trial, the main charges are aggravated fraud, fraud, and breach of trust.

The investigation into the case was opened in April 2010 on the basis of testimony by a state witness, whose name has been withheld. In March 2011, the State Prosecutor decided to indict 18 key suspects in the affair, subject to a hearing. The related cases of the Israel Salt Industries land, Tzuk Menara, and Hazera Genetics Ltd. were attached to the Holyland file.
