The former leader of the opposition who lost the Kadima leadership says she is not leaving public life.
After 13 years in the Knesset, former leader of the opposition Tzipi Livni announced her resignation. She leaves the Knesset one month after losing the leadership of Kadima in primaries to Shaul Mofaz MK. However, Livni has pledged "to remain in public life" although it is not yet clear where she is heading.
At a press conference which she called to announce her resignation she said, "My principles and my values obligate me to leave the Kadima faction in the Knesset following the results of the primaries. I am leaving the Knesset at this juncture but not resigning from public life. I have seen my country change its character in recent years with the public taking to the streets and I am determined to continue to work for the benefit of the country in my own way."
Livni will be replaced in the Knesset as a Kadima MK by 34 year-old businessman Yuval Zellner.
