"Moshe Silman is not alone. Stricter eligibility conditions for public housing and the lack of a social safety net are driving many people to despair with no way out," said Labor Party chairwoman MK Shelly Yachimovich on her Facebook page in response to Moshe Silman's self-immolation at a protest in Tel Aviv last night.
"In addition to the pain and shock, it should be remembered that suicide is an extreme and terrible act, which must not serve as an example or inspiration for young people and adults alike, and it would be a mistake to turn this act into a symbol of the protest movement," continued Yachimovich.
"Tomorrow, most of the conversation will be about the horror of the man who set himself alight at the demonstration. It is important for me to state that without live broadcasts, without promos, and the deliberate ignoring by the established media, tens of thousands of people marched for social justice through the country's streets last night," said Yachimovich.
"This is the most just, the most genuine, the most important, and the deepest protest. It is the most inconvenient for the government and the tycoons. In short, do not give up. The way is not easy, but justice will win."
