VeriFone Israel President: More high tech layoffs soon

Lazy Yanay accuses the government of not doing enough to support the industry.

"I have not a shadow of doubt that we will see more layoffs in high tech in the near future, VeriFone Israel President Lazy Yanay told "Globes" editor-in-chief Hagai Golan on the Globes TV "Face to Face" program today.

Yanay said, "The government for years has not done enough to support the local high tech industry; in other words, to support follow-on products of work by high tech people. Ministry of Finance officials don’t release the necessary grants from the budget, even though other ministries give them. We need a kind 'manufacturing Kahlon', a man who is really ready to pull the trigger and release the payments to manufacturers."

As for politics, Yanai added, "The Israeli political left is riding the social wave, and it is clear where that is taking us. When the left runs the country, we see Greece, we see Italy, Spain, and Portugal. There is absolutely no doubt that if you don’t know how to collect taxes properly, and you distribute allotments, and you create public sector jobs, you cannot support this over time. It's impossible. That is why I very strongly oppose the Israeli left today, because I think that it will cause us great harm, if it somehow obtains the economic reins."

Yanai added, "Politicians find it very easy to mix everyone up in the same blender. It's very convenient. People like Gil Shwed knew how to make money without hurting the people who work for them, and to make profits honestly, to get rich honestly. There is nothing wrong for a man to get rich, and there is nothing wrong in being rich if you did it with your own hands. It is wrong for a rich man who takes money from others through haircuts."
