NNG Software Developing and Commercial LLC (formerly NavNGo) today announced that it has launched a Google Android version of its navigation app, iGo, which until now was only available for Apple iPhones and iPads. iGo is considered very competitive to other mobile navigation apps, including Waze Ltd., Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL), Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG), and Intel Corporation's (Nasdaq: INTC) Telmap.
"Upon the expiration of binding commercial agreements, I am pleased to announce the availability of the iGo software for Android users," said NNG president David Wiernik. "Many users have waited for the software to go up and will now discover that patience pays. From today, Android users are invited to enjoy 3D professional navigation without an Internet connection, which offers updates and the most up-to-date information on the market."
To mark the launch, NNG will offer free download of iGo for 48 hours, beginning at 10 am on March 24, and continuing through 10 am on March 26. "Experience shows that there is very strong user response during the campaign, which is why I advise customers to come early and enter the market while it is free," said Wiernik.
After the campaign, iGo will cost NIS 260. NNG's business model from the free sales is to create a large user base for later purchases of updates and upgrades.
iGo's advantage is that its maps sit on the app, and do not depend on data transmission to the mobile device. On the other hand, Israel's prevailing cheap mobile Internet plans and falling prices abroad make the solutions of iGo's competitors more convenient, especially if the app is included in a smartphone and does not have to be downloaded at a specific time, which greatly limits the use.
