The Samsung Galaxy S4, which was unveiled over the weekend amid great fanfare in New York, will be go on sale in Israel at the start of May, slightly after the late April launch in selected other countries.
The design of the Galaxy S4 is identical to the Galaxy 3 but while the screen has grown from 4.7 inches to 5 inches the weight has fallen to 130 grams from 133 grams and the thickness of the Galaxy S4 is only 7.9 millimeters compared with the 8.6 millimeters of the S3. The screen offers a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixel Super AMOLED full HD touch screen that can be operated by gloves and is Corning Gorilla glass scratch-protected. Two versions will be available: an Octa-Core 1.6GHz model and Quad-Core 1.9GHz version.
Among other places the S4 will be available from the seven stores of Samsung Mobile's Israel importer and distributor Suny Electronics Ltd. (TASE: SUNY). Suny plans doubling its chain of stores to 14 by the end of 2013.
Alternatively the S4 can be bought from Suny's Internet store. The website has been operating for a year but has not been especially popular due to high prices. However, Suny is lowering prices on the web and introducing other inducements. For example, the price of the S3 on the web has been reduced to NIS 2,750 compared with NIS 3,000 at the veteran mobile operators with guaranteed delivery within 24 hours and a two year warranty.
