Labor Court to hear petition against airlines strike today

Minister of Transport Yisrael Katz: The airlines need to streamline and take advantage of Open Skies.

This evening, The National Labor Court in Jerusalem will hear the petition brought by the Manufacturers Association against the strike by the airline employees and tomorrow's expected sympathy strike by Ben Gurion Airport employees.

Interviewed on Channel 2 yesterday, Minister of Transport Yisrael Katz said, "The fact that the Histadrut is backing this strike is a serious matter. There is no legitimate aim here, because the government has the right to make decisions. I know of no entity that can stop this agreement. We are acting for the people's benefit.

"The Israeli airlines, including El Al, need to focus on streamlining, and to extract advantages from 'open skies'. "

The Histadrut exemptions committee has allowed some flights to proceed, among them a flight taking 25 teenagers from Yeruham to a robotics competition in the US.
