Media texting company invi raises $3m

The funds will be used to extend the Android application's cross-platform capabilities to include iOS and Windows.

Media texting developer invi Has closed a $3 million dollar round of financing. Investors include, Li Ka-shing’s Horizons Ventures, Ashton Kutcher and Guy Oseary’s A-Grade Investments, Alpha Investment, UpWest Labs and Silicon Valley angels from Google, Nokia, Yahoo, Groupon, Spotify, SRI, Cisco, Chegg and others.

The funds will allow the company to extend its Android application's cross-platform capabilities to include iOS and Windows. The company raised $750,000 from angel investors in November 2012, after graduating from the Silicon Valley start up accelerator UpWest Labs, which is designed for Israeli companies.

invi offers users a richer texting experience. New SMS support also enhances invi’s capacity to completely replace default Android SMS apps. Resembling Apple’s iMessage, invi users are now able to text with non-invi friends at regular SMS rates, while invi-to-invi messages are free over data or WiFi.

invi co-founder and CTO Lior Gonnen said, “We wanted to give our users a unified messaging experience across the board. SMS is still a dominant form of communication, and our users have been asking for this type of integration, so we listened."

invi’s interface is currently available on Google Play.
