"Ma'ariv" journalists fear newspaper's closure

Sources at "Ma'ariv" say that, in recent months, rumors have been proliferating about the pending closure of the newspaper.

"Are there intentions to close "Ma'ariv"?" asked employees in a letter to the newspaper's management in which they ask for clarifications about its future. The letter was in response to the problems experienced by "Ma'ariv" and "Makor Rishon's" owner in meeting payments to suppliers, including the printing house and freelancers, in the past few months.

Sources at "Ma'ariv" say that, in recent months, rumors have been proliferating about the pending closure of the newspaper. "Ma'ariv's" management has denied the rumors to "Globes".

In the letter, "Ma'ariv" employees call "to schedule an urgent meeting by all the relevant parties and to disclose to the employees' representative what is happening at "Ma'ariv". We also wish to receive comments on the McKinsey report's conclusions."

Today, "Ma'ariv's" workers committee is meeting with "Makor Rishon" employees and "Ma'ariv" journalists.

The employees write that their representatives have received reports that Shlomo Ben-Tzvi is unilaterally planning far-reaching restructuring of "Ma'ariv" while ignoring the employees' representatives. "To the regret of the workers committee, this conduct by your client is 'another round' in which Ben-Tzvi is ignoring the workers committee with regard to restructuring at the workplace, and another instance of bad faith," the letter states.

"Ma'ariv" declined to comment on the report.
