Lapid pledges cooperation with Flug

Flug said: “The Israeli economy is facing many challenges, and its ability to meet them is dependent upon a fruitful collaboration between the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Israel.”

Yesterday, the government unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Karnit Flug as Governor of the Bank of Israel.

“Karnit Flug has a relevant background, and relevant experience, and she has served in her position very well over the past few months,” said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “As we successfully steer the Israeli economy through the global financial crisis, we must make sure that Israel’s economic leadership continues to encourage growth and employment, to increase exports, and to reduce housing prices. We wish Karnit Flug success.”

After the cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Yair Lapid met with Flug for a routine meeting. The minister and the governor discussed ongoing issues confronting the Israeli economy, and agreed to continue the cooperation between the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Israel, which is vital for successful economic policy.

According to Lapid, “the meeting emphasizes how important cooperation with the Bank of Israel is to me, and the necessity of dealing with the economic challenges facing us, specifically, soaring housing prices and the high cost of living.”

Flug added: “The Israeli economy is facing many challenges, and its ability to meet them is dependent upon a fruitful collaboration between the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Israel, among other things.”
