The US dockless shared electric scooter company also plans launching scooters and bikes in Jerusalem, Eilat, Netanya and elsewhere in Israel.

Five months after first announcing that it would begin Israel operations, US dockless shared electric scooter company Lime is set to deploy scooters on the streets of Tel Aviv.

In fact, a quick glance at Lime's app shows that there are already a few electric scooters for rent in Tel Aviv, ahead of a more major deployment in the coming few days.

Lime joins US rival Bird, which launched in Tel Aviv last August, and already has 500 scooters available in the city, and German company Wind, which launched several weeks ago. Israeli company LEO, which markets Inokim electric scooters, will also join the fray next month with shared scooters.

Lime would appear to have more ambitious plans than its rivals. According to information on its app for "Juicers," those who recharge the scooter overnight for a freelance fee, the company also intends launching in Tel Aviv's neighboring cities of Ramat Gan and Givatayim as well as Kfar Saba and Netanya and even Jerusalem, Beersheva and Eilat.

Tel Aviv's cycle paths, sidewalks and streets are already congested with all manner of electric scooters and bikes. During the week, the traffic is at its heaviest between the railway and bus stations and office districts while at weekends the heaviest traffic is along the seafront.

All the dockless shared electric scooter companies charge a similar fee - NIS 5 plus NIS 0.50 for every minute. Lime offers a NIS 5 discount for those who load the electric wallet on their app with NIS 100 or a NIS 15 discount for those loading NIS 250. Lime also plans launching electric bikes at similar rental rates.
