Managers will assist in baggage handling. The Authority says it is recruiting workers in readiness for the Jewish holiday season.

After the strike by the workers committee at Ben Gurion Airport on Thursday and the ensuing congestion, the Israel Airports Authority’s management held a meeting this morning at which it decided on a series on measures. Among them, it was decided that together with a return to routine by the baggage, security and ground services, managers will temporary join work shifts, particularly in baggage services and management of queues.

The Airports Authority says that it is continuing to recruit new workers in readiness for the Jewish holiday season. In its announcement, the Authority’s press office stresses the phrase "as planned", apparently to highlight the point that there is no connection between the airport workers’ strike and the recruitment drive, and that the Authority has not been forced into the move by the workers committee.

"We ask the public to stay up to date with the airlines on flight times and to come to the airport as instructed," the announcement says. "The Airports Authority will continue to act constantly and responsibly to ensure regular, secure, and efficient service to travelers."
