Arkia Airlines Ltd. is expanding its fleet of airliners. The airline yesterday held the maiden flight of its Embraer plane, in addition to two others already operating on internal and international routes.
The new airliner is Arkia's eighth: two Boeing jets, three Embraer jets (E190 and E195), and three ATR-72 planes.
The new E190 has 92 tourist class seats and six business class seats. Like Arkia's other two Embraer jets, it will be used on various routes from Sde Dov and Ben Gurion Airports, for example to the Greek islands (Rhodes, Cos, Heraklion and Chania Airports in Crete), Paphos and Larnaca Airports in Cyprus, Bucharest in Romania, Tbilisi and Batumi in Georgia, Minsk in Belarus, Ohrid in Macedonia, and others.
According to Arkia CEO Nir Dagan, the new airliner is another step in the renewal and rejuvenation of Arkia's air fleet. "Arkia will begin operating another Embraer plane in June, its fourth, and these superb planes will be a key part of the company's renewed air fleet," he said.
Owned by the Nakash family (70%) and its employees (30%), Arkia flew 1.4 million passengers on internal and international flights in 2015.
