The taxi hailing app Gett (formerly GetTaxi) is teaming with Google, integrating Gett's service into the Google Maps navigation app and enabling users to order taxis directly from the navigation map.
The option to hail a taxi via Gett will appear on Google Maps when the user seeks a driving or walking route. The estimated time of arrival at the destination and estimated trip fare will also be displayed.
Google Maps is not installed by default on iPhone devices and has to be downloaded from Apple's App Store. It is installed by default on Android devices.
A user who has the Gett app installed on his smartphone will be able to hail a taxi to his destination with a push of a button. Users who have not installed the application will be directed to download it from the App Store (in iPhone devices) or Google Play (in Android devices).
Gett's service was launched on Google Maps in the UK several months ago and is now being inaugurated simultaneously in Israel and Russia.
Both companies have declined to reveal financial terms of this cooperation or its business model, but we can assume that Gett will pay Google for each user who signs into the application from Google Maps, as well as a fee per trip. Gett told "Globes", "This is part of a global cooperation. The commercial terms between the companies are not being disclosed."
