Taxi ordering app GetTaxiGetTaxin has begun placing billboard ads on taxicab roofs, sources inform "Globes." The step is being implemented in cooperation with the Taxi Life company, which will sell the advertisements, a field in which it has been operating in recent years.
Because GetTaxi does not own any taxicabs, it has begun to ask the over 3,000 drivers who work with it whether they want to put a pyramid billboard on their taxi roof, close to their taxi's yellow dome.
In return for placing the device on their taxi roof, GetTaxi will waive the NIS 250 fee it charges drivers for the tablet device it puts in their taxis, which functions as a virtual coordinator for taxis. GetTaxi's technology sends drivers to nearby passengers looking for an available taxi. GetTaxi put up the fee for its tablet device up by 400% in February; the previous charge was only NIS 50 a month.
GetTaxi says that it does not expect to earn money on the commercial advertisements appearing on the taxis working with its service; Taxi Life will keep all the advertisement proceeds.
GetTaxi said that the advertising product would be launched only in a few weeks, and was still being discussed, but a check by "Globes" revealed that a number of drivers have already put the pyramid billboard on the roof of their taxis, while others are expected to do so next week.
