Israel's electricity grid suffered a major cyber attack earlier this week, Israel’s Minister of National Infrastructures, Energy and Water Resources Yuval Steinitz said yesterday.
Steinitz told the Cybertech Security Conference 2016 in Tel Aviv that the Ministry of National Infrastructures, Energy and Water Resources deputy director general emergencies, information and cyber defense Tamir Schneiderman had successfully handled the attack with assistance from the Israel National Cyber Bureau.
Steinitz said, "To protect against the cyber attack. We were forced to shut down a substantial part of the electricity grid's computerized systems to reduce the damage."
Steinitz explained that the virus was identified and the appropriate software is neutralizing it. He said, "This is a tangible example of the need for cyber protection for electricity, energy and water installations in Israel, and our ability to export Israel's technologies and experience to the rest of the world."
