Tel Aviv fast lane jammed by toll fault

The sign stuck on NIS 7, the lowest toll, and hundreds of drivers exploiting the bargain were caught in a huge jam.

An embarrassing fault on the Tel Aviv fast lane this morning resulted in a huge jam at the entrance to Tel Aviv on Road 1. The fast lane charges a dynamic toll, which rises depending on the number of people using the lane, usually during the morning rush hour. However, this morning, following a power outage, the toll fee sign was stuck on just NIS 7, the lowest toll charge. Hundreds of drivers on Road 1 took advantage of what seemed like a bargain. Consequently within a very short period, the fast lane jammed up.

The fast lane operator announced this evening that all those vehicles that drove on the toll road in the 40 minutes when the sign was broken will not be charged for their journey.
