Uber Israel launches 8-seat taxi ordering service

The basic fare for every journey is NIS 8. NIS 1 is added for every minute and NIS 2 for every kilometer.

Uber Israel announced today that it has launched UberXL, a new service allowing users in Israel to order large taxis with room for up to eight passengers. The company says the taxis are ideal for transporting large families to and from Ben Gurion airport, weddings and other events as well as for trips and sporting occasions.

UberXL fares are not dependent on the number of passengers or number of stops along the way but the distance travelled and time spent. This is similar to the UberX business model recently unveiled by Uber Israel, which would allow private car owners to operate as taxis and collect fares, providing the law is changed to allow this.

The basic fare for every journey will be NIS 8. NIS 1 will be added for every minute and NIS 2 for every kilometer. The company claims this model is 20%-40% cheaper than the existing tax fare model.
