bmi quits Tel Aviv-London route

The last flight on the route will be January 9, 2010.

British carrier bmi today announced that it was terminating its Tel Aviv-London route, effective January 9, 2010.

bmi inaugurated the route in March 2008. It operates 14 weekly flights between Tel Aviv and London, and previously said it will cut two weekly flights. In recent months, the airline had been deepening its activity in Israel, and at times even carried more passengers on the route than British Airways.

A few weeks ago, Deutsche Lufthansa AG (XETRA: LHA) acquired bmi, and in the subsequent restructuring, Lufthansa eliminated some bmi destinations.

bmi said that the last flight on the route will depart from London on January 9, and from Tel Aviv on January 10. The airline promised to find alternatives for passengers with tickets for later dates.
