Microsoft's "small" job cuts may reach Israel

A source told "The Wall Street Journal" that the layoffs could come as early as this week.

"The Wall Street Journal" quotes a "person familiar with the matter" as saying that Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq: MSFT) is planning to lay off a small number of employees as early as this week.

It is not clear if the present round of layoffs will include Israeli employees. The sources said that the layoffs were "expected to be dispersed throughout the company", so Israel may be included.

The number of layoffs planned could not be confirmed, but "The Wall Street Journal" quotes the sources as saying that they would be far smaller than the approximately 5,000 employees Microsoft laid off last year.

"The Wall Street Journal" noted that Microsoft's fiscal year ended June 30, and the company typically makes business investment decisions for the coming year around that time.

The layoffs were also discussed in a blog on the Tech Flash site.
