The strike which broke out this morning at Ben Gurion Airport appears to be winding down. Sources inform "Globes" that the workers committee agreed with one of the compromise offers regarding workers' pensions, and negotiators are dealing with the language of the agreement.
At this time, workers have responded to outside pressure and are unloading luggage of travelers who already landed in Israel. However, in other areas, the general strike continues. There are still no departures.
Workers committees announced a strike this morning at Ben Gurion Airport. The strike was called after no breakthrough was reached in talks between the workers and management and the Ministry of Finance in recent days.
The airport was essentially in a state of chaos.
Planes which had already taken off for Israel were allowed to land at Ben Gurion but luggage was not unloaded. Baggage is not sorted, and planes will not be allowed to take off.
“IDF Radio" (Galei Zahal) reported that despite the fact that there are no departures, it was decided to conduct security checks and gather passengers in a sterile zone to avoid an uproar by the check-in counters, and to load passengers onto planes immediately when the strike ends.
The strike includes three workers committees at Ben Gurion.
The workers committee told "Globes" this morning, "We are at the same point we were two years ago on the issue of workers' pension funds. The meeting which began this morning at eight is continuing but the gaps are still wide and we have nothing else but to take organizational action."
