Video synopsis system developer BriefCam, Ltd. said today that is the winner in the physical security category in this year’s Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Awards.
The Wall Street Journal wrote, “Surveillance cameras generate a prodigious amount of video; unfortunately there's not enough time and manpower to watch it all. The winner in this category, Israel-based BriefCam Ltd., has developed a fresh solution to the problem: Video Synopsis, which enables a viewer to browse a day's worth of recording in just a few minutes by creating a summary of all the activities captured by a camera.”
More than a quarter of the total prize winners in the competition were non-US companies. About 49 out of nearly 597 entries received an award (8%).
Journal editors reviewed the entries and forwarded about 275 to a panel of judges from research institutions, venture-capital firms and other companies. The judges chose winners in 17 categories, based on three criteria: Does the innovation break with conventional ideas or processes in its field? Does it go beyond marginal improvements on something that already exists? Will it have a wide impact on future technology in its field or in other fields?
Neve Ilan-based BriefCam is the developer and provider of Video Synopsis solutions for CCTV surveillance systems. The technology summarizes hours of events into a “brief” that takes just minutes to watch with an index to the original source video.
