Dimona Silica wins $6m China order

The company hopes the deal is the beginning of a turnaround.

Dimona Silica Industries Ltd. (DSI) has won a $6 million order from China. The company, which manufactures mixtures based on silica materials from Negev quarries, today reported winning the contract for delivery in 2011, involving the supply of aggregates for paving new highways. The agreement between DSI and the China Institute for Planning and Building Highways was signed at the end of last week.

These are good times for DSI, which sees the Chinese deal as the first bud in a period of growth and prosperity after enduring a difficult period which put into doubt the future of the factory.

Among its troubles, DSI was involved in the affair in which former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert illegally transferred funds to it from the Investment Center when he served as Minister of Trade, Industry and Labor.
