How I'd love to live in Tom Friedman's flat world

Lilac Sigan

Sadly, I have to live in the real one.

Reading Tom Friedman’s latest column from Cairo made me physically ill. Why is it that some journalists feel that no matter what happens, it’s a great opportunity to smack Israel around a little, whether it’s relevant or not? Do they really believe that in doing so they’re “doing the right thing” or helping the situation? If so, I’m afraid they are dead wrong.

It’s been quite a while since I felt so personally abused by someone who is supposed to be a professional and responsible journalist, but seems to be drowning in so much arrogance he’s forgetting one very simple fact: for Friedman, as for all Americans, the revolution in Egypt is a movie of something that’s happening elsewhere. For the Israeli people, it’s real life happening right nextdoor.
