What do things like the proposed UN Security Council resolution condemning Israeli settlement building really mean?

Do you ever get the feeling that you’re living in a very very mad world? Hmmm. So do I. And sometimes I think maybe people who are exposed to the news should be equipped with a simultaneous translator, because otherwise chances are they’re going to miss the true meaning behind the words.

Example?

Just the other day, the US vetoed the UN Security Council’s resolution condemning Israeli settlement building in occupied territory. Just to make things clear: I am against the settlement building, but I also think that the obsession with this issue is a cheap spin that deflects the focus from the real problems in this world, which are a lot more complex and hard to solve. Obsession? Yes, obsession. Let me explain.
