Vita Pri Galil fires 58

Most of the employees laid off have worked at the factory for more than 20 years.

Vita Pri Galil, located in Hatzor Haglilit, has laid off 58 of its veteran employees, most of whom have worked there for more than 20 years. Company management said the layoffs could not be avoided, since the government did not fulfill its commitment to ease the factory's tax payments, and did not provide the grants it had promised, according to “IDF Radio" (Galei Zahal).

The employees were given notice last night, the eve of Tisha B'Av. Factory owners announced that they intend to lay off 120 employees, half of whom were let go today.

The laid off employees have no where else to work. Pri Hagalil was saved from closing two years ago when it was acquired by a new investor, and following an extensive public battle that included a two-week strike. According to the arrangement formulated, Pri Hagalil's debt to Rich has been divided equally between the banks and Hezi Hinam, the buyer.

According to the plan, the Hatzor Haglilit factory employees were to keep their jobs, as well as the all the rights they had accrued.
