New traffic cameras certified reliable

GPS companies have already included the cameras locations in their driver services.

The Standards Institution of Israel today certified that the new Gatso digital speed cameras are reliable. The Standards Institution submitted its opinion to the Israel Police and Malam Team Ltd. (TASE: MLTM), which is installing the system.

Standards Institution director Danny Goldstein said, "This opinion validates the system's reliability, so that the Israel Police can write tickets without worrying about inaccuracy. This will help improve road safety and prevent unnecessary traffic accidents."

The police are due to deploy 60 new digital speed and red light cameras by the end of the year. The system will issue tickets, which will reach the offenders' homes within 72 hours of the offense.

NavnGo Ltd. (iGo brand) and Ronlight Digital Ltd. (MiO brand), owned by Taiwan's MiTAC International Corporation (TWSE: 2315) have updated their GPS driver navigation applications to include the location of the new digital speed cameras.

iGO's update, costing NIS 100 per year, includes 548 warning points - speed cameras, red light cameras, and possible police speed traps. The update is available from NavnGo service centers, its online store, and Appstores for iPhones.

MiO's application update, costing NIS 30, will be available beginning in February. Subscribers to the company's maps can get the update for free.

Waze has already updated its smartphone navigation application to include the new speed cameras.

Telmap Israel subscribers will receive updates on the new cameras' locations when they begin operations. Telmap works with all four Israeli mobile operators - Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR), Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL), Pelephone Communications Ltd., and Mirs Communications Ltd.

Garmin Israel's service does not support alerts about the speed cameras.
