Low cost air carrier easyJet plc (LSE: EZJ) is inaugurating its Tel Aviv-Manchester route today. The airline will operate two weekly flights between Manchester and Tel Aviv every Monday and Thursday.
The company said that one-way starting fares for the Manchester-Tel Aviv route are €39.99 and for Tel Aviv-Manchester starting fares are €104.90, all taxes included.
easyJet entered the Israeli market in November 2009, when the airline introduced its first flights between London’s Luton and Tel Aviv. Since then easyJet has carried over 590,000 passengers on flights to and from Israel.
easyJet also operates flights from Tel Aviv to Geneva and Basel in Switzerland.
The airline says that it intends operating flights from Tel Aviv to additional destinations in Europe, although this depends on implementation of the “open skies” agreement, which was recently signed between the Israeli government and the EU.
easyJet UK commercial manager Hugh Aitken said, "We’re now celebrating easyJet’s first flight between Tel Aviv and Manchester. Both are great and exciting cities with an amazing offer in business, culture, sports, night life and education. I’m sure that our flights will make the connection between the cities more convenient and affordable for people at both ends. easyJet, a long term committed partner of Israel, has expressed its desire to expand services to Israel from other destinations across Europe. We’re confident that this move could result in bringing more tourists to Israel and give more choice to Israeli consumers who choose easyJet for its best and affordable service."
