Better Place sold record 102 cars in January

The company sold 518 electric cars in 2012 as a whole but only 5 cars in December, and 25 in November.

Better Place Inc. sold a record 102 Renault Fluence ZE electrics cars in January 2013, compared with five cars sold in December and 25 cars sold in November. The company sold 518 cars in 2012 as a whole.

Most of the sales in January were to leasing companies through Better Place's special heavy discounts plan. Industry sources believe, however, that the sales were a one-off event to clear Better Place's inventory.

Car sales in general were up in January, with over 22,000 new car deliveries, mostly to fleets. Industry sources attribute the strong sales to early purchases by leasing companies in expectation that the Ministry of Finance will implement the green taxes update as soon as possible, which will raise taxes on the most heavily sold cars. The update was supposed to come into effect on January 1, but was postponed.
