First blackouts follow Ashkelon power station breakdown

IEC said that today's blackouts were not initiated by the utility, but due to a breakdown at one of the Rothenberg Power Station's units.

A breakdown at the 575-megawatt Rothenberg Power Station in Ashkelon caused several blackouts in various locations around the country, Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) (TASE: ELEC.B22) reported today. The blackouts follow IEC's warning in a press conference this morning that blackouts were possible, and that the coming week and summer were going to be tough.

IEC said that today's blackouts were not initiated by the utility, but due to a breakdown at one of the Rothenberg Power Station's units. IEC said that power was restored everywhere after 25 minutes.
