Wix.com Ltd. (Nasdaq: WIX), which offers a user-friendly DIY platform for setting up websites, today announced the opening of a new development center in the Beersheva high tech park. The company has begun to hire a number of developers, and plans to train dozens of developers for its new development center. The final location of the new offices in the high tech park has not yet been settled, but a decision in the matter is expected shortly.
The company said that the development employees to be recruited will begin actual work on Sunday, as part of the company's special training procedure. The new employees and young students whom the company plans to hire later will join Wix's staff of 800 employees in Tel Aviv and elsewhere around the world. The company has doubled its staff of developers annually for the past four years.
In addition to opening the Beersheva development center, sources inform "Globes" that the company is also planning another new development center in Haifa, and is also recruiting employees for its planned northern branch.
Managed by CEO Avishai Abrahami, who founded the company, together with Giora Kaplan and Nadav Abrahami, Wix held its Nasdaq IPO last year, and currently trades at a $600 million market cap, the same value it had in its initial offering.
"As an Israeli high-tech company, it's very important for us to continue growing and expanding our development centers in Israel," Wix VP R&D Yaniv Even-Haim says. "Opening the development center in Beersheva will enable us to reach the large population in southern Israel, and offer them challenging, young, and dynamic employment in the forefront of global technology. Today, many software professionals and university graduates do not stay in the south because challenging jobs are lacking there. We believe that this situation can be changed, and that expertise and leadership on an international scale can also be created."
Wix confirmed that it had also begun hiring employees for another development center in Haifa.
