Visual media platform developer Mobli Ltd. has raised $4 million in its second financing round from Leonardo DiCaprio and other private investors through Morrix Holdings. The company has raised $5.6 million to date. "VentureBeat" reports. DiCaprio will also serve as an advisor on the company's image.
Mobli CEO Moshiko Hogeg co-founded the company, which has offices in Israel and New York City, where the company is currently hiring. The company currently has 30 employees, 17 of them in Israel.
Mobli has developed a photo sharing application, and claims that it is seeing 10,000 new users a day. The app enables users to search for photo and video content through different vertical channels, such as food, music, fashion and sports. Currently, the company’s biggest vertical is not celebrities or sports, but news. Hogeg said that when Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi was killed this week, people flocked to Mobli to find related content.
Hogeg told "VentureBeat, "[DiCaprio] has zero tech background. It’s about him knowing and understanding branding and marketing." He added that DiCaprio "is a major high profile celebrity, which can open a lot of doors."
