The communications cable has been repaired and the first trains began running again at 6 pm.
Israel Railways began operations again this evening after serious disruptions hit Israel's entire national rail network. The first trains began running again this evening after 6 pm.
Israel Railways crews spent much of the day trying to repair the breakdown which occurred when an underground communications cable that coordinates railway signals was damaged near Kfar Habad between Tel Aviv and Ben Gurion Airport. The cause of the damage is not yet known. Trains in and out of Tel Aviv were unable to run thus disrupting much of the national network.
Israel Railways was forced to ask passengers not to come to stations.
