Dov Moran today unveiled smartype, new type of keyboard with a sophisticated built-in display, developed by his new smart keyboard company KeyView Ltd. The smart keyboard has a built-in screen so that users need no longer to split their focus between a keyboard and computer screen.
The patent protected smartype incorporates an advanced embedded display that allows viewing while typing in real time. Smartype helps minimize typing errors and maximize productivity, all in user-friendly manner. Smartype include various apps, such as email notification for Google's gmail and Microsoft's Outlook, a clock, photos, and weather updates. A stock update app is planned for the future.
Serial entrepreneur Dov Moran, inventor of the Disk-on-Key, co-founded KeyView with its CEO, Uri Brison, in 2010. He also chalked up some failures, especially mobile phone company modu. Current ventures include smart TV company Comigo Ltd. and customer service quality app Sherut.net.
Smartype was wholly invented and developed in Israel, and Moran plans to sell it for NIS 400 in the local market via distributor Benda Magnetic Ltd., with expansion to the US later.
Moran has made previous investments in the keyboard field, including a $1.2 million investment in Comfyware Ltd., a developer of keyboards for children, in 2007. He has invested $2 million in KeyView, and he does not rule out an exit, saying, "If there is a grandiose proposal, I'll consider it." He adds, however, that the idea is to create an Israeli company with a commercial product.
Moran says that smartype is the first technology of its kind. "We have a strong patent," he says. KeyView, based next door to Comigo at Moran's start-up compound in Yarkona, has nine employees.
