The tanker arrived under an agreement between Israel and the Kurds which includes resale to third parties.
For the first time, a Kurdish oil tanker sailing from Iraq anchored offshore from Israel on Friday. The tanker arrived under an agreement between Israel and the Kurds, which includes the resale of the oil to third parties.
The tanker is anchored by the oil terminal at Ashkelon, and will be offloaded on Monday.
The anchoring of the tanker is another sign of the independent activity by the Kurds in Iraq, which is facing an onslaught by the al-Qaeda breakaway faction the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. The US opposes the independent sale of oil by the Kurds, and US government officials have warned potential buyers not to sign deals with the Kurds.
